Working 40 years in public education as a teacher, consultant and currently

as a school board member, provided the expertise I needed to meet the challenges encountered during the pandemic. It helped me

remain focused on my purpose as a trustee: the education and safety of Escondido students persists despite defying times.

in the Escondido Union schools. I supported the implementation of numerous programs and resources such as personalized learning, social-emotional and

mental health needs so students can access multiple resources to accomplish their educational goals.

I am proud to be part of a district that managed to be fiscally responsible, used state monies wisely and effectively without cutting student programs or services. Many of the decisions I made enhanced and improved the quality of learning for students including the following :

Supported the implementation of Full-time Transitional and Regular Kindergarten;
Collaborated with the district Design Team (commitee compased of parents, teachers admintrators, classified staff, board memebers) temporaily restructure schools during the pandamic to comply with new state and county mandates:
Supported the purchase of industrial HEPA air purifiers for all rooms in the district;
Scheduled and participated in weekly visit the Superintendent to school sites in the district;
Supported the hiring of additional School Counselors at Middle Schools;
Supported to implement an extended day for students;
Supported the implementation of a multi-sensory approach to teach reading and language (Orton Gillingham): attended one training session to understand how the program would be taught to students:
Supported a fiscally sound budget, certified by the County, for the past 4 years;
Supported the expansion of Summer School to six weeks for students to have additional corrective and remedial help;
Supported the implementation of a comprehensive security system for all schools;

A special thanks is extended to all parents, students, classified staff, teachers, superintendent, and administrators for making the Escondido Union School District a great place to serve as a board member.
